Evelyn Clark’s Shoalwater Shawl, knit for my mother-in-law out of Schaefer Andrea 100% laceweight silk. It took a little under a month to complete.
The Shoalwater Shawl
I’m glad I purchased and used this yarn, since the final result is fantastic, but I don’t think I’d use it again.
It snags on itself if you look at it wrong, and took over an hour to get into a ball (that’s with a ball-winder and swift).
I highly recommend the pattern, however, for variegated yarns. The color changes become a feature, rather than a distraction.
Unblocked lace shot!
All done. I ran out of yarn, which was expected since the Andrea only has 1093 yards per hank.
This was all that was left, remnants of a little sample. (Tea light included for scale.)
Even unblocked, even shorter than called for, I think it’s still one of the lovelier things I’ve knit.
Tout finis!
The picot bind-off took FOREVER.
Nice effect, though.
Lace close-up
The Andrea is quite thin, even for a lace-weight yarn.
“Gossamer” is totally a word I’d use to describe the finished product.
It’s delicate and beautiful.
Against the sky
I think the recipient will enjoy it!
